FINISHING IT OFF
Tip #1 -- Final Steps for a Great Score!

Complete the Computer Score Sheet… do you have all 20 points possible? Make sure you follow the instructions correctly.

Now take a look at the Judge's Rubric Score Sheet Guide to see exactly how the Judges will score your city! Some of the items are different from the score sheet you fill out on your own. It's possible to get a full 20 points on the computer score sheet, but end up with a low score from the judges.

TIP -- This website contains tips to help you with every single one of the scoring categories!

Instructions on how to use the Rubric Score Sheet

City Layout

  1. Do the residential areas have higher property values?

Click on [Query] and then on residential zones that have the nicest looking buildings. Higher property values may occur near water.  You can also check the [Adjust & Review] and then [View Data] and "Land Value Data Map" to help find highest value areas

  2. Is there adequate coverage of Police Stations and Fire Stations?

Click on [Adjust & Review] and then on [View Data].  Check the "Crime Data Map" and the "Flammability Data Map".

  3. What are the letter grades for Hospitals, Schools, Colleges, Museums, & Libraries?

Click on [Query] and then on a Hospital, then on a School, then on a College, and so on.  Any one hospital (etc.) will tell you the "grade" for all hospitals in the city; you don't need to check each one individually.

  4. Are there any factories located throughout the industrial zoned areas?

Look through the Industrial zones using the [Query] tool to see what each type of building is.

This document contains photos of what different Factories and High-Tech Industries look like so that you can easily spot them!  Click Here.

  5. Are there any high-technology industries?

Same as above. Look through the Industrial zones using the [Query] tool to see what each type of building is.

This document contains photos of what different Factories and High-Tech Industries look like so that you can easily spot them!  Click Here.

  6. Are there any agricultural areas?

Farms are easy to spot if there are any.

  7. Are various forms of garbage disposal used along with recycling?

Click on [Adjust & Review] and then on [View Data]. Click on the [Graph] button and then on Garbage.

Energy

  1. Is there power to all areas within the city?

Click on [Adjust & Review] and then on [View Data]. Check the "Power Data Map".

  2. Is there adequate water to all areas within the city?

Click on [Adjust & Review] and then on [View Data]. Check the "Water Data Map".

  3. Is air and water pollution under control?

Click on [Adjust & Review] and then on [View Data].  Check the "Pollution Data Map" and both water pollution and air pollution.

Transportation

  1. Does the public transportation system provide full mobility for the people?

Click on [Layer Views] button (down in the corner by the map) and then deselect everything except for "transportation", "other buildings",and"zones".  Check above ground (rails, train stations, and bus stops).  Check below ground (subways and stations).

  2. Is there adequate mobility for the transport of goods and services?

Click on [Layers] and then deselect everything except for "transportation" and "zones".  Click "ok". Check above ground (roads, rails, and train stations).

  3. Is there a developed seaport and airport compatible with the size of the city?

Seaports and Airports are easy to spot if they are there.

Recreation

  1. Are there enough parks, forests, and playgrounds in the city based upon the population of the city?

Click on [Query] and then on any one park or playground.  Compare the "Acres Systemwide" number to the city's population.

  2. Are there an adequate number of recreation areas?

These are easy to spot if you know what you're looking for.  If you're unfamiliar with what Sports Stadiums, Zoos, or Marinas look like, use the [Query] tool to confirm what something is.

  3. Are there an adequate number of special attractions in the city?

Again, these are easy to spot if you know what you're looking for.  Use the [Query] tool to confirm what something is.  Note that the "landmarks" that can be built are not "special attractions" and don't count.
