Tip #2 -- Agricultural Areas (Farms)

Getting farms to develop is one of the most difficult things to do.  The conditions must be just right for a farm.  Here are some tips…

Zone a large area, at least 8x8, as Light Industrial.

This area needs to be in an area far away from the city, with very low pollution.

Provide power to the area, but NOT water (the farm will provide it's own water, and having water there will encourage industries to develop instead of farms).

Provide a road along one side of the zone only (don't surround it with roads).

Make sure there is a surplus of industrial zones elsewhere in your city so that industries don't have to move to take over the farm.

Enact the "farm market" ordinance.

TIP -- Having Farms is worth up to 5 points on the Judges Scoring (item City Layout #6).  To get full points, you'll need at least one large (16x16 256 tiles) farm, or two medium 12x12 or 144 tiles) farms, or three small (8x8 64 tiles) farms.  This is something that few Future City teams are able to accomplish, so if you can do it, it will set your Computer City Design ahead of the rest!
