CITY SERVICES
Tip #4 -- Special Attractions

There are several unique items that your city can get by reaching certain milestones.  Some of these show up under the "Rewards" category; some of them will be proposed as "Business Deals" or through your Petitioners.

Some of these items are free, some of them cost money to build, and yet others pay you monthly.  Most items will help your city grow and be a better place to live, but some of them (the ones that pay you to take them) may increase pollution or crime or will lower property values.  It's up to you to decide whether or not it's worth it.  Some of these items cannot be removed once they've been built.

Some of the reward items are necessary for your city to grow larger.  If you have a very large city that seems to have stopped developing, try placing a few of the "rewards" to see if that will kick-start your population growth.

The following items typically show up as "rewards" and generally have a positive effect on your city:

  • City Hall
  • Country Club **
  • County Courthouse
  • Defense Contractor
  • Geyser Park **
  • Haunted House **
  • Historic Statue **
  • Lighthouse **
  • Mayor's House
  • Medical Research Center **
  • Performing Arts Center **
  • Science Center **
  • Spaceport **
  • Stadium **
  • Stock Exchange **
  • Theme Park **
  • University **
  • Winter Wonderland Park **
The following items are "Business Deals".  They pay you money each month, but have some negative effects with crime, pollution, and/or property value:

  • Casino **
  • GigaMall **
  • Maximum Security Prison
  • Military Base
  • Toxic Waste Factory

TIP -- Having "Special Attractions" in your city is worth up to 5 points on the Judges Scoring (item Recreation #3).  To get full points, you'll need five or more special attractions. Important: the national FutureCity judges have in the past only considered the items marked with "**" as "Special Attractions".  The other reward items or business deals may not count. You may still want to have them, but just make sure you have at least five of the items marked with "**".

Note that "Landmarks" (special buildings that you can add at any time like the World Trade Center, or Eiffel Tower) are NOT special attractions. Landmarks don't really do anything to help your city… they just look cool on the screen!
