CITY UTILITIES
Tip #1 -- Power
Providing Power to your city is one of the first things you will need to do.
This is relatively easy and teams usually don't have much difficulty with this.
One thing to watch for is that power plants have a limited life (usually
about 50 years). As they get older they will have less capacity, and
eventually they will self-destruct, and that can
lead to big power outages. You can use the [Query] tool to check each
power plant to see if it's getting old and to see what it's current capacity is.
Some power plants will also cause a lot of pollution. The
less-polluting power plants cost a lot more, and some are not available until
well into the future. When you can, it's worth upgrading the power plants
to minimize pollution.
Selling power to your neighbors is a great way to make extra money. Of
course this can lead to more pollution in your city, depending on what kind of
power plants you have.
Use the [Adjust & Review] button, then [View Data], and look at the
[Power Data Map] to find any areas that don't have power.
Also use the [Meet] [Utilities Advisor] to see if he has any
recommendations. Check with him often as he will let you know if the
utilities are adequate or if any are getting old.
TIP -- Making sure your city is
fully powered is worth up to 5 points on the Judges Scoring (item Energy #1).
TIP -- Some power plants
generate a lot of pollution. Low pollution is worth 5 points on the Judges
Scoring (item Energy #3) and worth 2 points on the Computer Score Sheet (item
#9).
