TRANSPORTATION
Tip #2 -- Transportation Isn't Just Roads!

A great city will need to have not just a good road system, but also will need to have Highways and Rail to move goods and people around the city.  A great city also needs mass transit (Bus Stops, Rail, and Subways).

The city can start with just roads, but eventually as it gets bigger, you'll need to add mass transit.

Bus Stops need to be adjacent to roads, and frequent.

Train Stations need to be adjacent to rails, and they are more effective if they are adjacent to roads as well.  The train stations may be less frequent than the bus stops and subways stations.

Subway systems are expensive to build, and it's probably best to wait until the city is well developed and you have a lot of money.  Subways need frequent Subway Stations.

TIP -- Rail and Roads account for a portion of one 5 point item on the Judges Scoring (item Transportation #1), and Mass Transit accounts for another 5 points (item Transportation #2).  Rail counts in both items, so having a good Rail system is really important!  For full points, you will need to have:

  • Road AND Rails connecting all zones.
  • A good layout of the roads and rails.  Highways are a plus.
  • At least two road or rail connections to neighboring cities.
  • Uniform city-wide distribution of Bus Stations AND Subways AND Rail.
