Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

Attendees: John Nierenberg, Rich Christie, Curtis Lu, Steve Brown, Al Moser, Karen Pavletich, Rob Tiplin, Erik Godo, Michael Case

 

Chair’s Report - John Nierenberg:

·        John went to the Region VI meeting in San Diego. Some items discussed there include:

·        Our 501-C report is due by Feb. 18th to get full reimbursement. We also need to take care of signature cards for all our accounts.

·        Any contracts we undertake which total $25,000 or more must be approved by IEEE national.

·        Surplus funds of the sections will be managed by IEEE national.

·        A dues increase will be coming soon.

·        Improvements to IEEE’s Web presence will include a geographic roster, a means of updating personal information and access to the Sami database.

·        There are only two weeks left for renewing memberships, for those who are late. One can renew on-line at www.ieee.org/web/accounts.

·        Wescon is offering scholarships to high school juniors, who must submit a 5000 word essay by May 1st. See http://coe.isu.edu/ieee/wescon.

·        The Northwest Area meeting for spring will be on April 14, 2001 in  Spokane.

·        The Engineering Fair booth on Feb. 17th and 18th still needs some volunteers to man. Exhibits include the Future Cities winning city and some videos.

·        The Nominating Committee has selected all the officers. Because of the combined Feb./Mar. DataLink, it was moved and approved to allow a slight bending of the by-laws regarding notification of the election of officers. The spirit of the by-laws remains intact.

 

Northcon – Rob Tiplin

·        Rob presented a check for $47,315.39 as the Seattle Section’s share of the closing down of Northcon.

·        There is still some final committee work for Rob to do.

 

Vice Chair’s Report - Sheri Rees – not present

·         

 

Secretary’s Report - Al Moser

·        Last month’s minutes were approved as amended.

·        25 paid students and 5 as yet unpaid students are attending the PE Refresher Course.

·        Al is almost done with the L-31 form for reporting society meetings.

 

Treasurer’s Report - Rich Christie

·        The section books are ready for auditing. Rich will try to contact Joe Blaschko to remind him of the need.

·        The budget was presented and discussed. It was moved and approved to pay AELC membership in the amount of $3600. The budget was approved as amended.

·        The Prudential money market account is fully closed.

 

PACE Report - Steve Brown

·        Steve attended the Region VI meeting and Region VI PACE meeting in San Diego. There will be a two day national PACE workshop on April 28-29 that Steve has nominated Steve Allen for. The workshop is in Tampa, Florida.

·        Steve has been attending Friday morning meetings of the AELC.

 

DataLink Editor – John Thompson – not present

·         

 

Standing Chair Report - Karen Pavletich

·        Karen got no response to the request for award nominations in the DataLink. Leann Kostek sent information about nominations for Region VI awards.

·        Judging went pretty well on the Future Cities competition.

 

Chapter Reports

·        CAS – Erik reported on the latest meeting, where Al Davis reported on the latest in Spice features. He has also arranged for one of the IEEE Distinguished Speakers to be coming in for a meeting.

·        IA – Michael Case reported that the March 20 meeting will be about UPS flywheel technology. For the  April 19 meeting, the subject will be power reliability at the utility level. At the May meeting, they will hear about the 40 Mwatt mobile generator in Tacoma. Michael will attend  a breakfast meeting of the society to lobby for bringing the society conference meeting to Seattle.

 

Student Chapters -

·        UW – Curtis reported 350 in attendance at their S-PAC. They held elections last week. The new president will be Christopher Sugg. The Robotics Festival will be on Feb. 17th. They are sponsoring the Engineering Technology Exposition at UW on April 20. He’s still working on the Pizza Feed. They are nominating themselves for the Exemplary Branch Award.
