Chair’s Report - John Nierenberg:
·
John
will be going to the Region VI meeting in San Diego February 3.
·
The
Nominating Committee has been at work, producing nominations so far for Chair (Sheri
Rees), Vice-Chair (Al Moser), Treasurer (Rich Christie) and Pace (Steve Allen)
·
Steve
Allen suggested that others may access the SAMI IEEE database as he does
regularly if they have some database know-how and get a little training.
·
John
worked with Leann to get more judges lined up for the Future Cities
competition.
·
We
should include student officers on our Web Site.
·
Chetan
Sharma has resigned as a Standing Chair.
Northcon – Rob Tiplin
·
The
last Northcon ended up with about a $3000 surplus, mostly due to a very
successful technical conference.
·
The
reserve of about $282,000 will be split three ways amongst the sponsoring
organizations.
·
Leann
K. suggested using our portion as seed money to attract conferences to Seattle.
Rob will convene an e-mail committee to discuss options.
·
We
discussed alternatives to Northcon.
Vice Chair’s Report - Sheri Rees
·
John
N. reported on Sheri’s behalf that she is continuing to search for the Spring
Banquet. The Chateau Ste. Michelle winery seems to be the front runner. Probably
the 3rd Friday of May, at a cost of about $65-75 per person.
Secretary’s Report - Al Moser
·
Last
month’s minutes were approved.
·
The
calendar was passed around as well as a partially updated roster for further
markup.
·
Al
is working on the L-31 form for reporting society meetings.
Treasurer’s Report - Rich Christie
·
Rich
reviewed the treasurer’s report and the budget draft. He hopes to have a full
financial report next meeting.
·
John
N. will recruit some people to audit Rich’s numbers.
PACE Report - Steve Brown
·
Steve
will be attending the Region VI meeting in San Diego February 3.
·
The
AELC lobbying council begins their breakfast sessions January 12. Steve is
expecting a check shortly from the Richland Section to cover their membership
in AELC.
·
Steve
Allen has agreed to be Pace chair next year.
·
We
will have a combined DataLink for February and March.
·
We
discussed the need for frequent communication with the members versus the
printing costs. We also discussed the use of e-mail notification of an
electronic DataLink when so many jump to the conclusion that such things are
spam. Perhaps members should actively sign up for specific distribution lists
they wish to be on.
·
The
point was made that the DataLink used to be quite a bit bulkier because of the
items included that were not meeting notices but presumed to be of interest to
the membership.
Standing Chair Report - Duane Carlson, Leonard
Carlsen, Karen Pavletich
·
Karen
is getting some help from Leann on the Future Cities competition. There are
almost enough judges.
·
Karen
will prepare an article for the DataLink to try to attract more nominations for
awards.
Student Chapters -
·
UW
- Curtis Lu reported the S-PAC has 312 students registered, with 22 sponsoring
companies.
·
Curtis
is working on the pizza feed plans. There is also a technical conference coming
up April 16-21.
Chapter Reports
·
MTT
– Tom reported a Jan. 18 lecture on OFDM and a Feb. 22 lecture on high
frequency PCBs. Tom Raschko will be operations chair for the 2002 MTT
conference in Seattle. He needs volunteers.
·
EMC
– Janet reported there will be another EMC meeting on Feb. 27
·
Computer
– Swarn reported on the November meeting and said there will be a March
meeting.
Old Business - none
New Business – Leann
reported that Paul Kostek is running for President Elect this year and she will
be running for Member At Large of IEEE USA.
