Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

Attendees: John Nierenberg, Sheri Rees, Rich Christie, Curtis Lu, Steve Brown, Al Moser, Duane Carlson, John Thompson, Janet O’Neil, Leonard Carlson, Erik Godo, Karen Pavletich          

 

Chair’s Report - John Nierenberg:

·        John  got the financial report in to headquarters on time.

·        Was contacted by Alexander Mamishev regarding his search for financial support for his team’s entry into the FIRST robotics competition.

·        We discussed a recent e-mail about irregularities in how Student Branch counselors are chosen.

 

Vice Chair’s Report - Sheri Rees

·        We discussed possible venues for the Spring banquet and price range. The Chateau Ste Michelle site of two years ago was popular. Will also look into Medieval Camlin. About $30 was deemed acceptable. We also discussed moving the date from the traditional third Thursday of May.

 

Secretary’s Report - Al Moser

·        Last month’s minutes were discussed and amended.

·        The calendar was passed around as well as a partially updated roster for further markup.

·        The PE Refresher course is on track and has a Web presence, with a link from the text publisher’s home page.

 

Treasurer’s Report - Rich Christie

·        Rich reviewed the treasurer’s report

·        We will be getting a booth for Engineer’s Week.

 

DataLink Editor – John Thompson

 

PACE Report - Steve Brown

·        Steve presented to the UW branch president a $700 check for sponsoring two tables at UW’s upcoming S-PAC.

·        The IEEE booth at the Engineer’s Week fair needs to have a good display gimmick to get people to stop. Janet O’Neil has a good EMC video. Rich Christie has a Power Engineering recruiting video.

 

Northcon -

·        Rob Tiplin was not present. John N. reported on his behalf that the Northcon books are still in the process of liquidation..

 

Standing Chair Report - Duane Carlson, Leonard Carlsen, Karen Pavletich

·        Len is looking at starting a Life Member’s club in the Seattle Section. He mentioned that the prize for the student paper contest comes from the Life Member committee and will be increased this year.

·        Karen met with Heather Baumgard at Puget Sound Energy to get financial support for the Future Cities competition.

·        Karen hasn’t gotten a response to her request for nominations for the PSEC awards program. We discussed ways to make the process more proactive and earlier in the season.

·        Duane is making a list of companies as part of his industry relations duties. He also reported that the Industrial Applications conference will be coming to Seattle on Oct. 3-8, 2004. Duane and Erling Hesla will be serving on the local committee.

 

Student Chapters -

·        UW - Curtis Lu reported on a technical talk that AvenueA sponsored. They also held a Poker Night. An officer election is coming up in the new year. They will also be trying to hold an S-TAC to be coordinated with the College of Engineering’s Engineering Week in April. Pizza Feed plans are still pending.

 

Chapter Reports

·        Circuits – This week’s meeting is about a zero oil and lubricant engine.

·        EMC – Janet reported on recent meetings. In September there was a 4 hour tutorial. In October EMC provided a speaker for Milwaukee, but turnout was poor. In November the session focused on a product launch. January’s meeting will focus on emergent EMC standards. March’s meeting will have Lynne Green talking about EMC and signal integrity. In April, an FAA representative will talk about recent lightning effects on aircraft. The EMC society needs to find a new meeting place.

·        Ocean Engineering – Sheri reported that the November meeting focused on restoring a man made island near Everett.
