Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

Chair’s Report - John Nierenberg:

John is still trying to contact Sheri Rees for
financial data. We may lose ~$18,000 if our report isn’t in by Nov. 30. Leann
will try to protect us from that.

The
Northwest Area meeting was on October 21, 2000.There was lots of student
activities, John gave a report on the behalf of Seattle Section and there was
much discussion of financial issues among the sections.

Evelyn
Hirt won the Region 6 director position.

Secretary’s Report - Al Moser
·
Last
month’s minutes were discussed and approved.
·
The
calendar was passed around.
·
We
discussed the need for attending to Pizza Feed plans and Duane Carlson will
interface with the UW branch on that.
Treasurer’s Report - Rich Christie
·
Rich
reviewed the treasurer’s report
·
Leann
said we might see ~$4500 in surplus from Northcon.
·
We
should be seeing some surplus from last year’s Machines conference in Seattle..
PACE Report - Steve Brown
·
Steve
interacted with other PACE people at the NW Area meeting. He found several who
were involved with the Future Cities competition as we are.
·
Puget
Sound Energy will sponsor a couple tables at the UW S-PAC.
Northcon -
·
Rob
Tiplin thanked Leann for her arrangements for Milwaukee Night. It was judged to
be quite successful.
·
Northcon
had 159 booths and about 4000 attendees. This was below the break even point.
However, the conference side was successful.
·
As
Northcon breaks up in its present configuration, there will be some
disbursement of reserve funds. We need to decide how to handle this.
·
The
convention manager, ECI, wants to continue Northcon in a new form and a draft
agreement was passed around for consideration.

Student Chapters -
·
UW
- Curtis Lu reported on his participation in the NW Area meeting. He has the
S-PAC speakers and panels lined up, but still needs a financial sponsor. A
seminar by Sun Microsystems attracted 85 students and National Semiconductor
attracted 60. Their web-site is 85% functional. Their T-shirt contest produced
a winner. With SWE and the ChemE clubs they are sponsoring a
mock-interview/resume-writing workshop.

- Scott Wolf reported on their meetings and committees formed.
Chapter Reports
·
Communications
– Joe Decuir reported that they will again team up with Microwave for a
November 30 meeting on TDMA evolution. January 18 will be a talk on OFDM,
cosponsored with MTT, see below. On February 22, Range Star Wireless will be
talking about Embedded Antenna Design Flow.

Industrial
Applications – Michael Case reported that they will hold a joint meeting with
Electric League on December 4 at the Experience Music Project for a social
time.

Microwave
Theory and Techniques – Tom Raschko reported on January 18, 2001 a speaker from
AnSoft will do a presentation on Orthogonal Frequency Domain.
