Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

Chair’s Report - John Nierenberg:

John is still trying to contact standing
committee chairs Duane Carlson and Chetan Sharma.
·
The
Northwest Area meeting is on October 21, 2000 at the SeaTac Radisson. Al Moser
volunteered to greet the group in the morning. John will handle the afternoon
report.
·
Dix
Fulton sent John some statistics on our web site.
·
PSEC
has called for nominations for various Engineer of the Year categories.
Vice Chair’s Report - Sheri Rees

Secretary’s Report - Al Moser
·
Last
month’s minutes were discussed and approved as amended.
·
The
calendar was passed around.
·
The
phone list was passed around for corrections. The corrections will be sent to
Barb for updates. Al had problems with believing in Michael Case, sitting next
to him.
Treasurer’s Report - Rich Christie
·
Part
of the Section funds is under his control and he hopes to get the rest by the
end of the week.
·
Chapters
and societies that have their own accounts should convert to concentration
banking.
·
The
entertainment for the Spring Banquet has been paid.
PACE Report - Steve Brown
·
Remaining
Section mugs were brought in and distributed.
·
PSEC
has two mentor nights for students this year: October 26 at Seattle University
and November 14 at University of Washington.
Northcon -
·
Leann
Kostek reported on Milwaukee Night plans. The Computer Society presentation
didn’t make it into the DataLink.
·
Leann
moved and it was approved that she spend up to $1000 on refreshments for
Milwaukee night.
·
Leann
also asked for input on audio-visual needs for the speakers.
·
The
IEEE Financial Advantage booth and other signage will displayed at Northcon.

Karen
Pavletich is receiving info on schools participating in the Future Cites
competition. The deadline for schools to sign up is October 15.
Student Chapters -
·
UW
- Curtis Lu reported on SPAC plans. He is still looking for more sponsors.
Leann will be attending the SPAC. The UW branch has re-registered as a campus
student organization. They have held an officer’s meeting and visited classes
to promote IEEE. They held a Back To School bash that attracted 90 attendees. Sun
Microsystems is hosting a seminar Wednesday the 11th. Their web-site
is being revised. They are holding a T-shirt design contest with a cash prize.
Their advisor is encouraging them to apply for recognition as a Center of
Excellence.
Chapter Reports

Communications
– Joe Decuir reported that a joint meeting with the Computer society brought 17
people to hear about XML. There will be a joint meeting with Microwave on
October 18th about 5GHz wireless networking. They will again team up
with Microwave for a November 30 meeting on TDMA evolution. December is not
planned yet. John N. suggested a talk on WAP (Wireless Application Protocol).

Industrial
Applications – Michael Case reported that they are sponsoring a talk at
Milwaukee night. They will hold a joint meeting with Power engineering on
December 4 at the Experience Music Project for a social time.

Microwave
Theory and Techniques – Tom Raschko reported getting a check from IEEE. They
got 6 people for a September 6 meeting on causality in waveguide circuit
theory. Last January they got 12 people for a speaker from Analog Devices, John
Cowles. On January 18, 2001 a speaker from AnSoft will do a presentation on
Orthogonal Frequency Domain. The full MTT meeting will be in Seattle in June of
2002.
