Subject: COM-19 report
Chapter Chairman's Report - October 13, 1998
The September meeting of the Seattle Chapter of the IEEE EMC Society was
held on the 29th at CKC Laboratories in Redmond. The speaker was Bob
Dockey of Hewlett Packard. Bob spoke on PWB design considerations to
minimize radiated emissions. Bob appeared through the EMC Society's
Distinguished Lecturer program.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 28. Chris Kendall of
CKC Laboratories will present a 4 hour hands on tutorial on EMC test
techniques. This meeting will start at 4 PM, rather than the more
traditional 7 PM.
I have been elected to a three year term starting January 1 on the EMC
Society Board of Directors.
Planning is progressing for the 1999 IEEE International Symposium on EMC,
to be hosted in Seattle in August of next year.

The Fall 1998 EXCOM Meeting was held on Wednesday, September 16, 1998 in the
San Diego Room of the Anaheim Marriott Hotel, during WESCON 98.
We begun with welcome, introductions and Region 6 Director's Report by John
Damonte.
IEEE Region (1-6) has now 320,000 members. Region 6 membership is up.
Cleon Anderson, Director Elect
IEEE may change from 501-6 rather than 501-c IRS organization.
Next Spring EXCOM meeting will be Saturday, 2/27/99 in Salt Lake City with
PACE meeting on 2/28/99. (Bring your skis).
Treasurer's Report, Larry Hamerman
Section's Congress will be 10/8-11/99 in Minneapolis.
Larry presented 1998/99 budget and current expenses. We are significantly
under-spent so far. Motion to add $5,000 to NW area budget passed
unanimously.
Secretary's Report, Art Astrin
Motion to pass the budget passed unanimously.
The expenses for attending this meeting will be paid by Region 6. If you

Professional Activities Report, Paul Kostek
Paul reported on SPACs, had 7 in each area. May 6 awards went to Region 6.
Attendance was over 300.
Membership Development Report by Howard Kohlbacher
Howard reported on progress in program to increase membership in Region 6.
Membership went from 50,487 to 52,403, a change of 3.8%. Student membership
went from 3,553 to 4,125, a change of 16%. Senior membership went from 97 to
98, virtually no change. National goal is 200. He reported on member get a
member program.
Government Relations Report by Jack Nawrocki
Jack reported on CLCB program and AB1643 and SB 2192, which in effect make
age
discrimination legal. Check web page

Murray reported on need to vote to change the amendment to Constitution
requiring 20% of vote to reduce this requirement to 10%.
General Discussion
Rhonda introduced new NW Area Chair, Robert Baldwin.
Kip Haggerty reported on difficult year in Southern Area. He wrote an
article
Autotestcon will be in LA in 2000. He is inviting Orange County to come
back.
Bill Murray reported that he has some candidates for Director Elect from
Southern Area but now will look for candidates in the whole Region 6.

Peter Bergsneider reported on awards program, and presented awards to Region
6
officers. He is planning to award HP as large company of the year.
