"Engineering for HIPAA: What HIPAA Security Really Means"

The talk will be presented by John Christiansen, Seattle law firm of Preston | Gates | Ellis

Abstract

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) has spawned unprecedented security regulations which apply to the computer systems used by every health care organization - including hospitals, health plans, physician offices, laboratories, and all the information services companies which serve them.
There is considerable confusion about these rules, and they aren't always easy to apply.
This talk will cut through some of the FUD to explain what HIPAA security compliance means, and the issues and opportunities it may present in technology development and implementation.
