Industrial Applications Society (IA-34) Meeting |
| Date: | May 20, 2008 (Tuesday) |
| Time: | 6:00pm - 6:30pm (social/dinner) 6:30pm (meeting) |
| Topic: | Grounding, Bonding, Lightning and Surge Protection
The Industry Applications Society is pleased to invite you to our last presentation before
our summer break. We will begin again in September. May’s presentation will be on
grounding, bonding, lightning and surge protection. The IAS is very fortunate in that the
guest speaker is a national expert on this topic who happens to be visiting our area from
Cleveland, OH. As with any grounding topic, expect a lively discussion.
This presentation will explore the fundamental theory of grounding (or earthing) of
electrical systems in general from the utility perspective as well as commercial and
industrial applications. Material properties relevant to electrical component design will
be discussed as well as basic electrical engineering calculations that pertain to
grounding. The electrical system grounding will then be used as a basis for
telecommunication and data system grounding requirements as discusses in TIA/EIA
J607.
